Ivey’s 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds rescued Purdue from an improbable Ohio State comeback

No. 16 Ohio State erased a 20-point second-half deficit Sunday to tie No. 6 Purdue with 26 seconds left. And then, facing the prospect of overtime, Boilermakers star Jaden Ivey drilled a 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining to save his team following a rough final few minutes with an 81-78 victory.

Purdue controlled most of the game, building a 52-32 advantage with 14:35 left. But Ohio State, which still trailed by 11 points with more than two minutes remaining, kept plugging away. An EJ Liddell 3-pointer with 35 seconds left cut Purdue’s lead to three, and when the Boilermakers turned the ball over, Jamari Wheeler swung the ball to Liddell for his second 3-pointer in 10 seconds and a tie game at 78.

Purdue’s final possession didn’t appear to go according to plan, either, after Eric Hunter picked up his dribble in the corner with four seconds left. But Ivey darted toward his teammate, pulled up and hit the game winner.

A projected lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, Ivey started the game on the bench in his second game back from a hip injury. But his final make gave him a game-high 21 points. Zach Edey had 20 for the Boilermakers, while Liddell’s late burst helped him finish with 20 points for the Buckeyes, while his teammate Malaki Branham also had 20.
